Area Guide for Sevilla![]() Sevilla is the largest province in Andalusia. With a population nearing two million, nearly half of those residents live in Seville. Tourists usually meander no farther than Seville finding plenty to do and see in the capital city. The Guadalquivir River winds through Sevilla creating interesting scenery. The cuisine in Sevilla is always delicious and usually extremely healthy. Whether there is truth to the legend or not, it is believed that Hercules founded the city of Seville dating the town back to Tartessian, Roman, and Moorish cultures. Seville holds the honour of being among the largest historical cities in all of Europe. Tourists will find an amazing blend of historical buildings, including the Alcazar Palace, la Giralda, and other churches. Don’t miss the Flamenco FestivalThose heading north of Seville will find the Sierra Norte Natural Park. Here there are many trails for hikers and cyclists to explore. South of Seville is the Quadalquivir River Plain. Many find this area to be rather plain, but in all honesty there are beautiful whitewashed towns to be explored. The Donana National Park is in southern Sevilla, here tourists can view flamingos during mating season. Lebrija-Las Cabezas offers a total of six different lakes where waterfowl can be seen in their natural habitat. Moron de la Frontera is famed for the town's yearly flamenco festival. Established almost twenty-five years ago, the flamenco festival (Gazpacho Andaluz) offers dancing, traditional flamenco music, and those attending are welcome to sample gazpacho, a traditional Andalusian soup. |
